Asheville has won well-deserved national attention for its thriving and innovative craft beer scene. Rising up to support this industry is a new kind of malt house, one that serves our local brewers by providing locally- farmed, artisan malts that bring depth and character to their craft.
We are honored to collaborate with this innovative business, Riverbend Malthouse, to bring you our Malted Milk Chocolate: a dark milk chocolate featuring Riverbend's Heritage barley malts, locally milled by community grain miller, Carolina Ground. To create this chocolate, we toast the malted barley, and grind it with a blend of Peruvian and Guatemalan cacaos, and organic milk powder.
This chocolate has a creamy, malty flavor, with aroma of nutmeg and cinnamon. It might bring you back to your youth, when "malted" meant a light, chocolatey milkshake. It holds the honor of being the reigning favorite in our bean-to-bar lineup among the residents of Asheville as well as international judges, bringing home in 2016 both a silver medal in the Americas category of the International Chocolate Awards and a finalist ribbon in Garden & Gun's Made In The South Awards.
